Micah Altman - Arden Lamp Works
Africa Lamp
My artwork includes Lamps, Beaded Jewelry and Painted Jewelry Hangers.
As a young child, my home was full of lamps, which my father crafted from found objects – wallpaper rollers, vases, and sculpture. Likewise, I find beautiful art objects and fashion them into lamps. I then create one-of-a-kind shades to complement these unique table lamps.
As a child I enjoyed crafts, moving into custom macrame belts and beaded jewelry in my teens.
As a Double Major in Fine Art and Biology at Sonoma State University in California, my emphasis was on drawing from nature – bones, trees, flowers, insects, and animals. During this period I discovered the field of Psychology. Following this new passion, halfway through my BA, I changed majors to Psychology, completing my Doctorate at Hahnemann University in 1986.
Not until the new millennium, did I find the time and energy to return to art and crafts, having devoted myself to a Psychology career and to my family. During this period, I again took up creating beaded jewelry, trained in the creation of lamps and lampshades, and began repurposing old, ornate picture frames into earring wall hangers.
